Rhythmic Revelations: Celebrating Femme-directed Music Videos is a Women’s Month event curated by Behind Her Lens Visuals, that celebrates the incredible women who are the backbone of music video representations right now. Although music videos have been largely criticised for exploitative depictions of women globally and throughout their history, long before contemporary representations, women have played a pivotal role in forming counter-narratives around representation in music, in order to challenge and disrupt the male-dominated genres that they were producing music and directing. This event highlighted and celebrated the journey’s of femme music video directors through a panel discussion joined by The Lotus Sutra, Lindokuhle Malinga, and Kimberly Pearl Moyo, and a soundscape through DJ sets featuring Kat Upendi. The event took place on the 5th of August 2023 at Flame Studios at Constitution Hill in Braamfontein.
