Nineteen-year-old Grace, who is pregnant with her dead boyfriend’s baby, locks herself in his bedroom on the day of his funeral, instigating a confrontation with his family as well as her own mother. Although she is devastated, she is no tragic figure. Her actions are not in despair but a subconscious plea for support. Nomthandazo, the mother of the deceased and a powerful matriarch, recognises Grace’s plea and has a change of heart.
